Lunch Served for Beauty Day at Dwight’s House

About a week ago, Dwight’s House had a Beauty Day for all the ladies that stay at the shelter. Cosmetology apprentices came and treated the ladies to hair cuts and styling, face treatments, and make-up. Nick and Brian Nix served everyone at the event lunch from the Marbella Farmers Market. AOK would like to give a special thanks to Revo the meat department manager at Marbella Farmers Market for donating ninety sandwiches, macaroni salad, and fruit for the ladies and those treating them to a day of beauty.

Nick Baldwin sold his successful development company in 2006 and focused more of his effort and time on “Acts of Kindness.” He is committed to helping the people of Baja California and other underdeveloped areas simply because there is a need. AOK exists and functions with Nick’s funding, time, and talented team of friends/volunteers. Thus far, Nick’s AOK is committed to finishing the re-construction of seven schools in the Baja area and these serve as only the beginning.

AOK has successfully completed several schools already, delivered clothing and supplies to the people of Baja, funded the building of a well in the Philippines, supplied money and technological support to a school in Costa Rica, and continuously delivers a monthly donation of baked goods to a local retirement home in Southern California. Nick is not done or limited to these “Acts of Kindness,” he is always willing to listen and learn of new ways to meet a group of peoples’ needs.

AOK Teams descend on Rancho El Milagro Children’s Home

On November 15, 2009, Under the leadership of AOK’s Nick Baldwin the Wahoo’s Baja Support III mission was achieved by embarking on the Rancho El Milagro children’s home which is about 30km inland from Ensenada, Mexico. Together with the generous support of Sal Fish from SCORE International, Wing Lam from Wahoo’s Fish Taco, Eric Morley, Dillon Morley and Duran Morley from Blue C Advertising, Jim Riley from Azunia Tequila, Marty Fiolka and Susan Kennedy from DirtSports, Ed Stout and his family from the #13 Trophy Truck and third in SCORE championship in points, Mike Urbano and his friends from the COPS Racing team with special thanks to John Langley Productions for the additional donations, Jim Cook from Sinister Films and Jeff Marks from Hussong’s Cantina in Las Vegas.

The objective was to continue the yearly dedication of delivering 1000 cans of food and supplies to a location in need which represents one can for each mile of the SCORE Tecate Baja 1000. In addition to bringing the 1000 can of food and supplies, John Langley Productions with COPs Racing brought another 1000 cans of food and supplies to the Rancho El Milagro for a total of 2,000! To round the entire delivery off Nick Baldwin, Brian Nix and Javier Tamayo coordinated the delivery of a complete carload of toys for the entire children’s home. “The entire team was estatic about being apart of this great mission and look forward to next years Baja Support Run IV says Wing Lam from Wahoo’s Fish Taco.”

Dwight’s House Staples Update

Nick and Brian loaded up on a bunch of staples for Dwight’s House. This time around the need was for paper products and household items. Another great visit and opportunity to help the ladies at Dwight’s House.

Cambodian Church Orphan Home AOK Part 1

The aoknick.org team is partnering with an Olympia Washington church and one of its missions teams, Warm Blankets Orphan Care International, to provide fresh drinking water and fish to the Kong Pixay Church Orphan home in Cambodia. With the construction of a well and a fully stocked pond, the children of the home and the Cambodian widows that take care of them will receive clean water and fish daily. The fish provides vital protein needed for growing children and can be sold in the local market to provide funds for other supplies needed in the home.

In January 2010, the mission’s team will fly to Cambodia to spend time at Kong Pixay doing additional work of constructing a security fence around the entire orphanage. This work will consist of digging trenches for the foundation, filling rock, mixing and pouring cement, laying brick and more. It is labor intensive, involving mixing the cement by hand; shoveling dirt and small rock, and adding cement and water.

Other projects slated to occur in January are the painting of the Orphan home, inside and out, as well as a special outing with the Orphans to shop for shoes, coats, and other needed items.

Please check back in early 2010 to view photos of the completed Kong Pixay Orphan Home projects. In the mean time please pray for the success of the mission’s team and these projects in Cambodia.

A $1000 Check was given to help get things off the ground.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center

Nick and Melissa Curzon just recently teamed up for another AOK. Nick donated funds to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for breast cancer research at the Women’s Cancer Research Institute at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute. These were used in a race for the Cure and served as another great opportunity for an AOK.
